The Initiate Action Community Fund (IACF)

The Initiate Action Community Fund has been established to support educational initiatives and causes that work to break the cycle of disadvantage in the community. Established by Phillip and Mercedes Slater the IACF is a sub-fund of the Australian Communities Foundation (ACF).

We finance the fund by donating a percentage of annual profits.

The Journey to Social Inclusion (J2SI) program is a relationship based approach to supporting people to exit long-term homelessness.

Raise the Rate

The campaign to Raise the Rate for Good is key to reducing poverty and inequality in Australia. The goal of the Raise the Rate campaign is to fix our social security safety net for good so that it keeps people out of poverty.

The Funding Network

The Funding Network works to build the capacity of grassroots non-profit organizations, by helping to democratize giving and facilitating greater community engagement.

Rainbow Families

The voice for and champion of LGBTQ+ families and prospective parents in Victoria. Volunteer-powered they are here to advocate for, empower and celebrate the love and support that every individual is entitled to.

Transgender Victoria

TGV is Victoria’s leading body for trans and gender diverse advocacy. They work to achieve justice, equity and inclusive service provision for trans and gender diverse people, their partners, families and friends.

Through providing a place of belonging and engagement Gatehouse helps individuals address issues such as family violence, drug addiction, homelessness, poverty, mental health and social isolation.

New Stars Association

Basketball for Young Offenders Program
New Stars Basketball Association is an education, sport and life skills program run by a small, dedicated team who work with over 300 self-referred, at risk young people each week. They operate in a modest community centre in Springvale on barely the whiff of an oily rag and are scoring major outcomes with young people who would otherwise be at high risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system.

Kiva

KivaKiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty, leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions.

In 2012 we chose to support 27 female entrepreneurs across 12 third-world countries.
In keeping with our community fund focus on education and our corporate focus on inventory management loans were made to assist with:

  • Higher education
  • Working capital to purchase inventory for resale
  • Raw materials for small scale manufacturers and farmers
  • Spare parts purchases
  • And even to improve logistics through the purchase of a motorbike!
2011 Grants

Cara

CaraCara is a not for profit community service organisation providing specialist accommodation, care and support for vulnerable children and young women who are unable to live at home or with their family.

Grants from the Initiate Action Community Fund in 2011 enabled Cara to provide educational support to young women and parenting teenagers.

Western Chances

Western ChancesWestern Chances has a vision to see young people achieve their full potential. To achieve this the organisation assists motivated young people by providing scholarships, opportunity programs and ongoing support.

Grants from the Initiate Action Community Fund in 2011 enabled Western Chances to provide three scholarships supporting further education.
